V IRGINIA C OLONY The Virginia Colony was founded by John Smith. Virginia was founded in Virginia’s settlers were from England. Virginia was founded for political and religious freedom. Virginia’s major cities are Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Richmond. It became a state on June 25, 1788.

M ARYLAND C OLONY The Maryland Colony was founded by Lord Baltimore. Maryland was founded in Maryland’s settlers were from England. Maryland was founded because they were building new colonies for North America. They had better plans. There was about three-hundred first settlers in the Maryland Colony. The real name of the founder Lord Baltimore was Cecil Calvert.

N ORTH C AROLINA C OLONY North Carolina was founded by the Virginians. North Carolina was founded in North Carolina’s settlers were from England. It was founded for profit made by trading and selling land. It was known for indigo. It was also known for rice and tobacco.

S OUTH C AROLINA South Carolina was founded by the English Colonists. South Carolina was founded in South Carolina’s settlers were from England. South Carolina was founded because the Carolina’s were originally one state but the settlements were far apart and hard to govern so they split the colony apart into two separate colonies. South Carolina’s major city is Charleston. South Carolina’s major industry was Plantation agriculture.

G EORGIA C OLONY Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe. It was founded in the year of Georgia’s settlers were from England. James wanted to found Georgia because he wanted it to serve as a place where debtors in prison could go to start a new life for them selves. Georgia’s major city was Savannah. James lead freedom of religion to all Christians except Catholics.

N EW H AMPSHIRE New Hampshire was founded by John Wheelwright. New Hampshire was founded in N.H.’s settlers were from England. New Hampshire was a planned colony. The land was granted to John, who lived in Hampshire, England. It became a state on June 21, New Hampshire’s major city is Concord.

M ASSACHUSETTS Massachusetts was founded by John Winthrop. It was founded in the year of Massachusetts settlers were from England. Massachusetts was founded so families could start a new life. It became a state on February 6, Massachusetts major cities are Boston, Quincy, Plymouth, Salem, Lexington, Concord.

R HODE I SLAND It was founded by Roger Williams. It was founded in the year of Rhode Island’s settlers were from England. Rhode Island was founded because Roger got banned from England for his religious beliefs, so Roger fled and lived with the Narragansett Indians and formed Providence in Rhode Island’s major city is Providence. Rhode Island became a state on May 29, 1790.

C ONNECTICUT Connecticut was founded Thomas Hooker. It was founded in the year of Connecticut’s settlers were from Massachusetts. It was founded because they were creating and moving into new towns. It became a state on February 6, Connecticut’s major cities are Hartford, New Haven.

D ELAWARE It was founded by Peter Minuit. It was founded in the year of Delaware’s settlers were the Dutch. Delaware was founded for agriculture and trade. It became a state on December 7, Delaware’s major city is Wilmington.

N EW J ERSEY New Jersey was founded by Lord Berkeley and Sir George Carteret. New Jersey was founded in the year of New Jersey’s settlers were from England. New Jersey was founded because the Duke of York received control of New Netherland he granted land to his friends that would become New Jersey. It’s major cities are Trenton and Princeton. New Jersey became a state on December 18, 1787.
