Circulatory System By: Juan Alvarado

Function  The heart, blood, and blood vessels make up the cardiovascular component of the circulatory system. It includes the pulmonary circulation, a "loop" through the lungs where blood is oxygenated. It also incorporates the systemic circulation, which runs through the rest of the body to provide oxygenated blood.

Organs  The Heart  Lungs  Arteries  Veins  Coronary and Portal Vessels

Description  The circulatory system is a vast network of organs and vessels that is responsible for the flow of blood, nutrients, oxygen and other gases, and hormones to and from cells. Without the circulatory system, the body would not be able to fight disease or maintain a stable internal environment — such as proper temperature and pH — known as homeostasis

What The System Works With  The circulatory system pumps blood through the body and is composed of the heart, blood vessels, arteries, veins, and capillaries. The circulatory system works with other systems in the body because it carries oxygen and nutrients to other areas of the bodies like the muscular system. It works with the skeletal system because the bones produce blood cells. The digestive system breaks down the nutrients so they can be absorbed into the blood and be transported throughout the body.

How The System Works  The blood circulatory system (cardiovascular system) delivers nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body. It consists of the heart and the blood vessels running through the entire body. The arteries carry blood away from the heart; the veins carry it back to the heart. The system of blood vessels resembles a tree: The “trunk”, the main artery (aorta), branches into large arteries, which ramify into smaller and smaller vessels. The smallest arteries end in a network of tiny vessels, the capillary network.
