Concept Generation Tools 6-3-5 Method Morphological Chart

Concept 1 -Recumbent design. -Has a “cup” design for holding the prosthetic. -Shifters mounted on left handle. -Brakes through the use of a friction pad on the bottom of the bike. Discussion: -Recumbent design would be comfortable. -Prosthetic attachment would be easy -Brake system unintuitive -Expensive

Concept 2 -Based on classic bike design. -Design was edited to put brakes on left hand along with shifters (different from sketch. -Prosthetic is held in place by a simple locking mechanism. Discussion: -Design would be intuitive. -Not much more expensive than a normal bike. -Would feel natural.

Concept 3 -Designed around the idea of modifying an existing bike. -Mounts shifters on the frame of the bike, and puts brakes on left handle. -Hold for prosthetic is a horizontal bar. -Comes with detachable arm harnesses Discussion: -Design was praised for modifying an existing bike, lowering the price. -Arm harnesses deemed bulky and unsafe. -Down-tube shifters, while inexpensive, were looked at as annoying. -Horizontal bar for prosthetic deemed unsafe
