“The Wall” And the idea of personal freedoms

China China is famous for its cheap labor. These workers were forced to sleep in the factory in order to meet the demands of the Christmas rush. What does this picture say to you about the conditions of the factory workers?

North Korea North Korea is ruled under Kim Jong-Un since the death of his father Kim Jon-Il, and since his time as leader more than 200,000 citizens, including children have been imprisoned in order to provide forced labor. Malnutrition and illness run rampant. What does it say to you that in today’s world we still experience this type of inhumanity?

Cuba Cuba punishes its citizens by repressing their ability to protest their government. Cuba uses public beatings, termination of employment, and threat of long-term imprisonment in order to control its citizens. How might a government gain enough power to have this type of control over its citizens?

Think Critically  What does it say to you that most of the countries that experience a lack of civil liberties are not part of the Western Culture?  What might be some reasons why these countries are so far behind in allowing its citizens personal freedom?
