Geography Madagascar is in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It’s the fourth largest island and its 2 times the size of Arizona. Natural resources are graphite, chromite, coal, bauxite, salt, quartz, tar sands, semiprecious stones, mica, fish, and hydropower. The amount of irrigated land is 10,860 sq km. Total renewable water sources are 337 cu km. Natural hazards are periodic cyclones, drought, and locust infestation.
