Brain and Learning Research: Implications for Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners by Fara E. Green

Brain Structure Brain is shaped by genetics, development, and experience (Sylwester, 1994)

Multiple Intelligences Recognize different cognitions, mental strengths and contrasting cognitive styles. Intelligence is to solve problems or fashion products valued in community settings. (Gardner, 1993)

Multiple Intelligences verbal-linguistic logical-mathematical, visual- spatial, bodily kinesthetic, musical-rhythmic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalist, existential (Gardner, 1993)

Learning Styles Visual Auditory Kinesthetic (Dunn, 1995)

Emotions and Learning Emotions drive attention and in turn, drive learning and memory. (Sylwester, 1994)

Music and Cognitive Development formation of connections (synapses) and the growth of branching extensions (dendrites) (Black, 1997)

Brain processes parts and wholes simultaneously. Learning is influenced by emotions, self-esteem, and social interaction. Each brain is unique. (Caine, Caine, and Crowell, 1995) Brain-Based Learning

Educational Implications Take the responsibility for teaching diverse learners : prepare for complex instruction to materials, resources, groupings, and assessment instruments. Emphasize social interactions with mutual respect and acceptance. (Green, 1999)
