Life Stages: Standard: HS-IHA-7 Student will compare and contrast the life changes from conception throughout the lifespan as it relates to all growth and development. Core standards: SAP5e- describe effects of aging on all body systems SAP4e- examine various conditions that change normal body functions SAP5d – describe the stages of development from birth to adulthood- i.e. neonatal period, infancy, childhood, adolescence and puberty, and maturity

Life Stages Growth and development – Process begins with birth – Does not end until death During all stages, individual have needs that must be met and healthcare workers must be aware of the various stages

Stages Infancy: birth to one year Early childhood: one year to six years Late childhood: six to twelve years Adolescence: twelve to twenty years Early adulthood: twenty to forty years Middle adulthood: forty to sixty-five years Late adulthood: sixty-five years and up

Types of Growth and Development Physical: body growth Mental: development of the mind Emotional: feelings Social: interactions and relationships

Stages Each stage has its own characteristics and contains specific developmental tasks an individual must master – Simple to complex – Each stage establishes foundation for next stage Ex: individual first learns to sit, then stand, walk and finally to run.
