“No success in life makes up for failure in the home.” AUTHOR UNKNOWN

PARENTS, Raise your children in the Lord!

The opportune time to raise children in the Lord is today, now, immediately. o Effective parental instruction and training is much shorter than life itself. o Teaching children must begin very early – from birth. o Start shaping while hearts are pliable, tender. o Proverbs 4:3-4 o Deuteronomy 6:7

HOW TO BRING DOWN A SON Author unknown, 1927 o Let him have plenty of spending money. o Permit him to choose his own companions without restraint or direction. o Give him a latch key and allow him to return home late at night. o Make no inquiry as to where and with whom he spends his leisure moments. o Allow him to understand that manners make a good substitute for morals. o Teach to expect pay for every act of helpfulness to others. o Let him spend Sunday hours, between services, on the streets. o Be careful never to let him hear your voice in prayer for his salvation and spiritual growth.

God has placed the oversight of children’s care and growth on parents. o Love your children (Titus 2:4). o philoteknos – fond of or affection for children. o God for Israel (Hosea 11:3-4) o Love provides for the family (Eph. 4:28; 1 Tim. 5:8). o Feed, clothe, shelter; communicate; give your time; be parents who exemplify faith and goodness

Train a child in the way he should go... in the Lord’s way (Proverbs 22:6). o Do not leave children to decide for themselves regarding moral and spiritual matters. o Proverbs 22:15; 29:15 o Drill them in what is right in the Lord!

Train a child in the way he should go... in the Lord’s way (Proverbs 22:6). o Bring up children in the Lord’s admonition (Ephesians 6:4). o No substitute for godly training from parents. o Fathers lead by “putting in the mind” the word and way of the Lord. o 2 Timothy 3:14-17 o Joshua 24:15

Train a child in the way he should go... in the Lord’s way (Proverbs 22:6). o Discipline your children promptly (Proverbs 3:12; 13:24). o Children left to themselves bring shame. o Restraint – do not give them free range. o 1 Samuel 3:11-13 o Corrective punishment in order to cultivate righteousness (Hebrews 12:11). o Proverbs 19:18; 22:15; 23:13-14; 29:15
