Dinner Out at Mi Chulas By Nikoletta S.

My Meal Drink: Lemonade (fountain drink) $2.50 Appetizer: Hot Mama’s $6.95 Entrée: Spicy Baja Fish Tacos (one) $9.00 My total was: $18.45

Augustus’s Meal Drink: Sprite (fountain drink) $2.50 Appetizer: Queso (regular) $4.75 Entrée: Beef Enchilada (two) $9.95 His total was: $17.20

Alex’s Meal Drink: Mountain Dew (fountain drink) $2.50 Appetizer: Guacamole $6.95 Entrée: Chicken Ricardo $11.95 His total was: $21.40

Mom’s Meal Drink: Prickly Pear Margarita $6.00 Appetizer: Nachos Ricos $10.95 Entrée: Tortilla Soup $8.25 Her total was: $25.20

Total Subtotal: $82.25 Sales Tax 8.75% or.0875: $7.20 Total (after tax before tip): $89.45 Gratuity (tip) 15% or.15: $13.42 Total price: $102.87

Why Tax: to find tax you do the subtotal (82.25) times the sales tax (8.75% or.0875) but that is only the tax NOT your new total so you add it to the subtotal (89.45) Tip: to find tip you do the percent of tip 155 times your original but you can’t multiply a percent and a decimal so you turn 15% into.15

Observations I noticed that in this case the tip was more than the tax I noticed that tax and tip add more money the more the meal I noticed that depending on where you live makes a big difference in how much you have to pay

Defintions Subtotal: the total before tax and tip Sales Tax: a fee charged by the government that you pay Tip: the amount of money you give the waiter for their service Total Price: what you pay (after tax and tip)
