 The Meeting was hosted by the Forest Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (FMB-DENR) of the Philippines,  Mr. Marlo D. Mendoza, Director of FMB-DENR of The Philippines and Mr. Saysamone Phothisat, Director of Protection Forest Management and Forest Restoration, Department of Forestry of Lao PDR were unanimously elected as Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the 3 rd Meeting of the ASFN, respectively.

 The Meeting agreed to proceed with the signing of the MoU between RECOFTC and the ASFN Secretariat represented by the ASFN Lead Country (Indonesia) for strengthened collaboration in more implemented joint activities in the future,  Indonesia as Lead Country of ASFN will inform the ASEAN Member States on future development of activities implemented under the strengthened collaboration between ASFN and RECOFTC regularly, for information and participation by ASEAN Member States.

 ASFN Participation in UNFCCC COP-14 Events in Poznan, Poland, December 2008;  Recruitment of three full-time officers at the ASFN Secretariat to serve the ASFN Members;  ASFN Participation in E-Learning on Network Management held online during 19 January – 31 March 2009;  Development of ASFN Website; and  Organization of Side Event on Social Forestry Role in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation held in Subic, Zambales, the Philippines, back-to-back with the 3 rd ASFN Meeting.

 The 3 rd ASFN Meeting noted the commitment expressed by the representative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for more support extended directly to ASFN through its 4-Year Partnership with ASFN.  The Meeting agreed to proceed with the signing of an Exchange of Letter between the SDC and the ASFN Secretariat represented by the ASFN Lead Country (Indonesia), for implementation of activities under ASFN 4-Year Partnership with SDC.

The Meeting agreed to adopt the following documents:  Synthesis of Country Report for areas of cooperation (bilateral, regional, multilateral),  ASFN Roles in Addressing Climate Change, and  Rotation of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Host Country of ASFN Meetings. The Meeting agreed to provide inputs to the ASFN reference documents concerning:  Sustainability Plan for ASFN,  Knowledge Management for ASFN, and  ASFN Communication Strategy.

was officially launched during the 3 rd ASFN Meeting, and the Meeting agreed to provide regular updates particularly on: (i) National and Regional activities or events related with Social Forestry and Climate Change from the period June – December 2009; (ii) Logo of National Forestry Department/Administration to be uploaded to ASFN Website; (iii) Permission to include the website link from the ASFN Website to national Forestry Department’s Website; (iv) Stories related with Social Forestry and Climate Change; and (v) Local/National/International Partner/s on Social Forestry and/or climate change (name of the Organization, office address and website address).

1. To strengthen Member States’ commitment to ASFN by: (i) ensuring attendance in future ASFN Meetings, (ii) hosting ASFN Meetings on rotational basis in alphabetical order, (iii) providing resources for the implementation of ASFN’s future programmes. 2. To encourage the organization of Side Events alongside ASFN Meetings on theme reflecting emerging trends and issues in social forestry. 3. To recognize the critical role of ASFN in responding to climate change by promoting social forestry as a means to climate change mitigation and adaptation through (i) sustainable forest management, (ii) multi-stakeholder collaboration, (iii) preserving, recording and sharing local and indigenous practices, and (iv) community carbon accounting. 4. To provide support in strengthening the Partnership between ASFN and SDC in collaboration with RECOFTC and other partner organizations.

 In order to kick-start with the adopted rotation of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Host Country of ASFN Meetings starting in 2011, Indonesia will host the 4 th ASFN Meeting tentatively in June 2010 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.  The 5 th ASFN Meeting will be hosted by Brunei Darussalam, for the ASFN Meetings in the following years to be hosted in the alphabetical order as adopted by the 3 rd ASFN Meeting. 
