 Picture having to hide in the shadows all of your life not even being able to eat with your family and all you have is books to rely on. The population law in this book makes Luke have this kind of lifestyle Because he's a 3 rd child. He never had a friend, or had a birthday party. The only people he knew were his Mom, Dad, and his two brothers Matthew, and Mark.

 Living in a low economy small house living in the farm life were old woods used to be before the government cut it down for housing developments. Were money is a struggle they must hide now.

 Life for Luke is hiding in his cold attic. Once when he was little he was able to go outdoors and play with his two older brothers until they cut the woods down for housing developments.But because of the houses he cant even eat diner at the dinner table with his family. Now He must live with no one in his attic until his parents say “Hi”.

 He was not even aloud near windows, so after trying to find a way to see out side he looks through the vent. After he counts 28 people leave there homes he sees a person like figure at the ‘Sports House’. Later finding out after sneaking across his yard to the house he finds a friend also a 3 rd child named Jen.

 After a few times that they hang out and the scary, and risky adventures to Jens house she finally talks about yet another risky thing called the rally. The rally consist of thousands of third Childs to go to the presidents house and protest against the population law. This will also consist of Luke to go but will he go? Will he survive? Will his friends survive?

 Will Luke go on as a new life?  Will he survive?  Will he go to the rally?  What will his mom and dad say?
