Bridge Building We all have to start somewhere!

A few bridge-building suggestions  Pay attention to the rubric  Get the right materials  Don’t wait until the night before!!!  Keep the due date in mind….  A-Day classes: Jan 15 th  B-Day classes: Jan 14 th

Some Hints…  Wax paper to protect your table  Ruler to keep things lined up  Sketch your plan on a piece of paper and build over it

Handy Things to Have on Hand Sandpaper to shape sticks or clean up rough edges. Weights or heavy objects to hold things in place while the glue dries.

More Handy Things Prop up parts against books or weights to keep them square Clamps might help to hold things in place (this one was too big).

Be Resourceful  Cut the sticks to needed length  Use every piece if possible  Remember how the bridge will be tested After 50 sticks, this was all that remained.

To Think About  Laminating the sticks makes them very strong but uses a lot of sticks  Use the sticks to form structural shapes such as I -beams  Take advantage of online resources…  Such as garrettsbridges.com  And many others…

Bridge Day  Your bridge will be tested by applying a simulated mass to the deck  The testing device automatically senses when your bridge fails

Something Different  Try a different design!

Build a bridge that “holds up” the laws of Physics, and…..

….Don’t Wait Until the Night Before
