APAN P2P WG : Introduction Hyun-chul Kim KAIST (Wed)

APAN P2P Working Group Chair : Hyun-chul Kim/KAIST, South Korea Objectives APAN P2P Working Group is focused on the followings. - help in understanding implications and challenges of emerging P2P technologies and applications on research and education communities - explore, experiment and take advantage of P2P technologies to support advanced applications on research/education networks.

Activities n n Bi-annual Joint Sessions/Workshops and WG Meetings during APAN Meetings. (potentially with Network Storage & Content Distribution WG or Grid WG) - P2P Session in APAN Penang Meetings (2001 Aug.) - P2P Session in APAN Phuket Meetings (2002 Jan.) - P2P&NSCD Session in APAN Shanghai Meetings (2002 Aug.) - P2P&NSCD Session in APAN Fukuoka Meetings (2003 Jan.) - P2P Session in APAN Busan Meetings (2003 Aug.) - P2P&Grid Session in APAN&Internet2 Joint Techs Workshop (2004 Jan.)

Topics We have had in the past sessions - P2P Overview : Model, technologies, and applications - Measurement of P2P traffic and Peers’ Resources on a campus network - Scalable Network Resource (Storage) Sharing - Some P2P projects - Jxta and P2P - Internet2 P2P Activities Report

Issues - Candidate Topics for the Next APAN meetings in cairns/AU : Mobility-aware P2P techs/applications : wireless sensor networks, … P2P-rizing applications (web caching, searching, p2p-cache, …) : How? For what? - Requirements Analysis for P2P techs/apps on a high- bandwidth network : What do we need? Why? e.g., Public Computing Infra./Distributed Storage for APAN communities: (based on BOINC, P3, Logistical Networking, …?)

Remarks - Currently serving a role as a loosely-connected forum that bridges p2p people in APAN countries. - Better to make peering relationships with those people first! and from there we expect to make a step forward to define and have some interesting cooperative projects. - P2P Co-chairs : any volunteers ? - P2P WG meeting : tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon, 4:00~5:30PM, Room D

Contact Points - General Discussion : - General Contact : - Website Address : - Chair : Hyun-chul Kim
