The Year of Entitlement MAP Transition and Transfer Conference December 3 rd 2015 The Riverside Stadium

The national curriculum-primary or secondary? Number - associate a fraction with division and calculate decimal fraction equivalents [for example, 0.375] for a simple fraction [for example, ⅜] Number- solve problems involving multiplying and adding, including using the distributive law to multiply two digit numbers by one digit, integer scaling problems and harder correspondence problems such as n objects are connected to m objects. Geometry- use mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement, including movement in a straight line and distinguishing between rotation as a turn and in terms of right angles for quarter, half and three-quarter turns (clockwise and anticlockwise). Earth and space- use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.

Why transfer and transition? To bring coherence to the changes to the curriculum and assessment at all stages To prevent compulsory education having an unsuccessful outcome for more than half our pupils To ensure more effective continuity and progression in learning and teaching To create a professional community who have a good working knowledge of the different phases and who work with pupils based on a sound understanding of where they are and where they are going

Girls’ attitude to core subjects

What we can do? Plan – not a one term wonder, but a plan that charts work from Y5-Y8 Build on what works – sharing pedagogy Look over the fence- knowing what the curriculum looks like in upper juniors and lower KS3 and understanding the learning challenges Sharing pupils work and discussing it Common data transfer Being clear about the purpose of Y7 at a whole school and subject level Front load intervention Improving the quality of teaching

What we are doing? Sharing practice that works Giving subject networks a transfer focus Making transfer and transition a MAP priority Transition Working Group leading work Bringing leaders together
