Coordination with TSA On June 30, 2005, FMCSA and TSA met to discuss ways to leverage ITS/CVO in support of homeland security FMCSA presented an overview of the core and expanded CVISN programs FMCSA also presented a summary of the ITS/CVO elements that could be leveraged for homeland security-related activities Facilities and Infrastructure Relationships and Organization Methods
Facilities and Infrastructure Electronic screening infrastructure (e.g., nationwide network of electronic screening sites) Safety information exchange infrastructure (e.g., state data repositories—Commercial Vehicle Information Exchange Windows, ASPEN inspection software, data transfer between states and FMCSA)
Relationships and Organization State CVISN program organization Multi-State Coalitions Technology working groups Public/Private partnerships Existing communication mechanisms between FMCSA and state CVISN teams Existing relationships with key external stakeholder groups
Methods Expandable architecture consisting of open standards Proven and successful planning process (e.g., training courses, planning and deployment workshops) Deployment program support Lessons learned from deployment program
Next Steps FMCSA and TSA will develop CVISN- related questions for inclusion in TSA’s corporate security reviews FMCSA and TSA will discuss the creation of a security-related flag in SAFER for use in roadside screening and enforcement activities TSA may participate in future expanded CVISN working group meetings
