When an object is placed in water, it displaces, or moves, water out of the way. Think of the last time you took a bath!

Do you displace water when you swim in the ocean Do you displace water when you swim in the ocean? Does the water level rise when you enter?

1. What is a force? A push or a pull

2. Why do objects feel lighter in water? Because of buoyancy!

3. What is buoyancy? A force that acts in the upward direction, against the force of gravity, so it makes an object feel lighter when placed in a fluid. Weight Buoyant force

4. What direction does the buoyant force act? Upward! (opposite of gravity)

6. What is Archimedes Principle? The buoyant force on an object is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. Eureka!
