Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
PDHPE is a KLA As well as subjects such as Mathematics and English, PDHPE is one of the key learning areas in the primary school curriculum. It is a subject which is essential for the learning and growth of every child, with each individual participating and encouraged to learn and develop new skills.
PDHPE can sometimes be misconceived as a subject which is just concerned with sport however it: Encourages and focuses on the importance of valuing self and others Endorses physical activity for health benefits Places importance on decision making which leads to useful and responsible action
The PDHPE curriculum has a balance of both theory and practical lessons, with the development of new life-long skills, involving problem- solving, moving communicating, interacting and decision-making, which makes it essential to teach in primary schools. Board of Studies (2006)
