Informal and casual: Nǐ hǎo! 你好! Formal and polite: Nín hǎo! 您好!

Xiè xiè! 谢谢! Thank you! You are welcome. Bú yòng xiè! 不 用 谢!

Nǐ hǎo ma? 你好吗? (How are you?) “Nǐ hǎo ma?” is the direct translation of “How are you?” However, in Zhōng guó (China), people do not say “Nǐ hǎo ma?” Usually, people just greet each other by saying “Nǐ hǎo” or “Zǎo shàng hǎo”.

Zǎo shàng hǎo! 早上好! Good morning! Xià wǔ hǎo! 下午好! Good afternoon! Wǎn shàng hǎo! 晚上好! Good evening!

Pīn yīn ao (pronounced as “au”): Zǎo shàng hǎo! w (pronounced as “wu”): Xià wǔ hǎo!Wǎn shàng hǎo! x (pronounced between “s/sh”): Xià wǔ hǎo! ia (pronounced as “i+a”) : Xià wǔ hǎo!

Huó dòng 3: Listen and spell Work on your own. Listen carefully for Pinyin. Spell the Pinyin on your white board. Don’t worry about tones. Just try to spell correctly. zao xia pao xi lao wu xin wa mao wen

Huó dòng 4: Quick quiz Zǎo shàng hǎo! Xià wǔ hǎo! Wǎn shàng hǎo! Work in pairs. Student A says a greeting, student B writes the phrase down. Pay attention to your spelling. Zǎo shàng hǎo! Xià wǔ hǎo! Wǎn shàng hǎo!

Exit Slips Use a white board. Write your full name. Write down 5 things that you have learned today (words, phrases, Pinyin, characters, etc.).
