Physical Geography Location N W Relative location- Central North America, North Central Minnesota Landforms- lakes, coniferous and deciduous forests, Mississippi and Crow Wing rivers, hilly area Movement- Timber, railroads, Mississippi Human-made features- railroads, dams, roads, public access

Climate Environment: wetland, lake shore, wooded Water use: lake recreation, drinking, irrigation Ecosystem:forests,wetlands Effects:can be too flooded or cold Human interaction:summer = tourism, fishing, water sports. winter = ice fishing, snowmobile, skiing

Resources Natural- timber, water Human- tourism, farming Pollution and management- invasive species = wash stations at public water accesses

Region Place or region?- Both Region- lake area with railroads, retail shops, and tourist attractions Why is it a region- retail center of north mn, tourism, railroad and amount of lakes Type of region- lake land

Human Population- 65,000 people Demographics- 96.6% white, 0.6% black, 0.9% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 1.5% Hispanic, persons under 5 years = 6%, persons under 18 = 22.3%, 65 years and older = 20.1%, female = 50.1%, density = 55 people/sq. mile Interaction w/ environment- recreation on lakes, hunting, expanding of city Movement- moved there because of the Mississippi River and because of logging. Seasonal residents move there in the late spring/early summer and move out in the fall
