Judaism The first monotheistic religion Sometimes known as the Covenant Faith Descendants of Abraham, with whom God formed the Covenant God would make Abraham’s people the “Chosen” ones in the Promsied Land and in return they offer God complete obedience.

Fundamental Precepts of Judaism There is only 1 God Life is holy The Torah is a guide to correct living and is the word of God Jews around the world share a common destiny and a responsibility to one another

Dietary Laws (kosher) “You shall not boil a kid in its mother’s milk” No mixing milk with meat Cleanliness and the avoidance of unclean animals are crucial to keeping kosher

Seafood must have fins and scales (salmon, tuna), yet not be a scavenger (catfish) Land animals must have cloven hooves, chew their cud, and be slaughtered in an especially prescribed humane manner Birds cannot be scavengers and also must be slaughtered in a special way

Major Jewish Holidays Rosh Hashanah: New Year celebrating the creation of the Earth… Hebrew calendar is lunar. Yom Kippur: The Day of Atonement.
