Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March 2007 How to become a Life member This is automatically calculated by IEEE based on the above criteria, and IEEE advises those who are eligible. Individuals are notified in the 4th quarter of the year prior to becoming Life members. A non-renewable membership card is issued to those eligible.

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March 2007 Why have Life Members To recognize their loyalty of membership. Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March 2007 Region 10 Activities for 2007

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March Establishment of Life Member Groups in Sections Currently Region 10 has 650+ Life Members registered. This is a reflection of the youth of this Region compared to other Regions, and is in effect about 1% of the total Region membership. The average value of Life Members in Regions worldwide is about 6% to 6.5% of total members.

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March 2007 Con’t … 1. Establishment of Life Member Groups in Sections The Bombay and New South Wales Sections are the only Sections in Region 10 having Life Member Groups in their Sections. Using the criterion that a Section requires only 4 Life Members to form a Life Members Group, there is the opportunity for about 26 Sections within Region 10 to form Life Member Groups.

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March 2007 Con’t … 1. Establishment of Life Member Groups in Sections Based on 2005 data, these include Lahore (4), Hong Kong (14), Taipei(9), Republic of Philippines (4), Seoul(10), Singapore(8), Thailand(8), Beijing(10), Bangalore(18), Delhi(6), Madras(9), Calcutta(6), Hyderabad(5), Gujarat(4), Uttar Pradesh(4), New Zealand North(7), Victorian(23), Queensland(12), South Australia(9), Australian Capital Territory(5), Tokyo(273), Sendai(24), Nagoya(17), Kansai(55), Hiroshima(7), & Fukuoka(8) Sections.

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March 2007 Con’t … 1. Establishment of Life Member Groups in Sections The initiative to establish Life Member Groups rests with each Section Committee. The target number of Sections establishing Life Member Groups in 2007 is 7 being about 25% of the total potential.

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March Provide support to those Sections establishing Life member Groups When a Section establishes a Life Member Group, the RLMC will be available to provide whatever assistance to that Section and their Life Member Co-ordinator as is appropriate and possible. This could include advice regarding activities, funding, etc.

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March Encourage Life Members and Members to actively support the Life Members Fund The Life Member Fund distributes about US$100,000 each year for projects and activities which are considered worthy of support.

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Kota Kinabalu, 24 th & 25 th March 2007 Thank you, Graeme Gwilliam Region 10 Life Member Coordinator.
