Moving on Mental Health - MCYS System Transformation What does it mean for Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Community Presentation

Key Messages  Finding mental health services for children and youth in Ontario can be difficult, confusing and time-consuming.  That is why Ontario is strengthening the community-based child and youth mental health system, so that parents and youth will know what child and youth mental health services are available in their communities, and how to access them.

Key Messages continued  The ministry has identified geographical service areas across Ontario. Lead agencies in each service area will ensure children, youth and families across the province have access the same core services and clear pathways to care.

Key Messages continued  All lead agencies will work with their community partners to strengthen the community-based child and youth mental health system to ensure families, children and youth have access to the services they need, when they need them, as close to home as possible.

Key Messages continued  The priority for lead agencies in their first year will be to engage in the necessary leadership and planning activities that will set the stage for system change. There will be no abrupt changes to core service delivery in any service area.  Creating a more responsive and integrated system for children and youth is part of the Ontario Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy’s ongoing commitment to helping children and youth with mental health issues.

Recent MCYS Updates  6 million towards core services across the province  Lanark, Leeds and Grenville, $77,000 towards our core services and we are looking at furthering our partnership with our school boards  Program Identifier – Child and Youth Mental Health Services Ontario

Core Services  Targeted Prevention  Brief Services  Counselling/Therapy Services  Family/Caregiver Skills Building and Support  Specialized Consultations and Assessment Service  Crisis Services  Intensive Treatment Services

Core Services Delivery Plan 1) Develop a Core Services Delivery Plan in partnership with other CYMH core service providers in the service area for Ministry review and approval  A scan of what core services are offered in the service area and identifying gaps such as special needs, age, geography etc.  We have 4 Core Service Providers in our service area that we will be working with

Community Mental Health Plan  Develop a Community Mental Health Plan, in partnership with other sectors, such as health and education  Will be meeting with community partners to talk to them about services they provide on the mental health continuum from targeted prevention to treatment  Eligibility criteria, wait-times, service modalities and discharge processes are of importance  Build on existing Nexus data that is available and will be sending an additional survey

CMHP continued  Development of a Community Mental Health Plan Advisory Committee – January 2016  Identify three key priorities for children’s mental health services within the community  Begin to address these priorities for the next 2 years in partnership with community partners

Youth and Parent Engagement  Youth and Parent engagement is a priority for both the Core Service Delivery Plan and the Community Mental Health Plan  We will be working with the Centre of Excellence to support the development of a engagement plan  We are dedicated to working with partners who already have engagement plans in place such as EKIOC Youth Engagement Squad

Additional Information  MCYS emphasized that the first year of implementation “Is a period of assessment, collaboration and learning for all”  The system transformation team also shared that the primary mandate for the Centre of Excellence has changed to support for the lead agencies
