DR ANNA LASCELLES Working with your Educational Psychologist

The Educational Psychology Team 12 Educational Psychologists 2 Trainee Educational Psychologists Based at Ray Lodge Children Centre Each EP has a ‘patch’ of schools with a time allocation Work through a consultation model of service delivery

Termly Planning Meeting Time Allocation Discuss and prioritise pupils for EP involvement Discuss training/development work/small group work Set dates for term

Termly planning: Other ways of working Therapeutic work in groups or individually Staff supervision (e.g. for work in nurture groups) Systems work (e.g. developing policy, training parent groups, research)

Consultation … Is collaborative problem solving with the ‘problem owner’ and psychologist. Redbridge EPS usually begins by holding a consultation meeting with either:  The school SENCo,  Class teacher  Parent  Parents and staff together (home-school consultation).

Why we use consultation Based upon well founded models of psychological theory. The problem owner is the expert and can find a solution with the help of certain psychological questions. Understanding the issue in more detail- leading to new insights and ways forward Thinking about what’s working already! Time and space!

Working with key people around the child

Process

Observation Looking to see the child's respond to their environment Looking to see what is working already Looking at the child's relationships with others

Individual work Gaining pupil views Looking to see that child's response to teaching and scaffolding (may involve tests, although these are not the only methods of assessment we use) Therapeutic intervention

Thinking together about interventions

Review: what’s working together?
