Academic & Practical Needs of the Proposed Research ■ New Product Development 의 Supplier Involvement 가 기존 연구에서 많이 진행된 Manufacturer 의 Benefit 뿐만 아니라, Supplier 입장에서의 Benefit 이 있음을 검증함으로써, 다음의 implication 을 제공하고자 함. Benefit 은 Supplier 의 Financial Performance, Innovation 그리고 Benefit 은 Supplier 의 Financial Performance, Innovation 그리고 Product Quality 로 Measure 함. Product Quality 로 Measure 함. - Supplier : 왜 자신들이 적극 참여 (higher level of commitment) 해야 하는지 어떠한 Benefit 을 얻을 수 있는지 Evidence 제공. - Manufacturer : Supplier 들에게 Win-Win 전략의 확신을 심어주는 Motivation 으로 사용.

Theoretical Background (3/3) ■ Supplier Involvement and Financial Performance ● Working together with manufacturers cooperatively in product development, suppliers can validly expect general positive outcomes from supplier involvement in new product development such as fast response to changing market demands, reduction in costs and risks, and quality improvement on the part of manufacturers. These positive outcomes will generate better financial outcomes for suppliers too by sharing of joint profits. ▶ Carter et al. (1995), Hagedoorn and Schakenraad (1994), Helper (1996), Swink et al. (1996). ● Suppliers involved in the manufacturer’s new product development acquire new knowledge and technical capabilities to complement their weaknesses from the manufacturer, and, in some case, from other suppliers.
