6/2/11 Facts 1. Standardized testing are now used to hold up children and schools for comparison, the scores are used to discriminate rather than diagnose, punish rather than reward. 2. The emphasis placed on standardized testing has had a significant negative impact on the public education system in the united states. 3. Solly argues that schools no longer create informed citizens, instead they focus on teaching children information on how to pass the government mandated standardized testing. /

6/2/11 Facts 1. Tests are also sometimes used as a requirement for something, such as high school graduation, scholarship, or eligibility to participate in collegiate athletics. 2. Standardized testing should not be used as the primary tool to assess students knowledge progress, and abilities. 3. Standardized tests have historically been used as a measures of how students compare with each other or how much of a particular curriculum they have learned. of-evil-or-good/

6/2/11 Facts 1. When standardized tests are the primary factors in accountability, the temptation is to use the test to define curriculum and focus instruction. 2. Standardized tests are tests on which all students answer the same questions, usually in multiple choice format, each question has only one correct answer. 3. Standardized tests are one of the few ways to measure outcomes of teaching. Grade/dp/

6/2/11 Facts 1. Teachers who are not helping our students reach their academic potential are much more dangerous to our children than any test. 2. Testing children in 4th, 8th, and 12th grades is now mandatory. 3. Educational test if developed carefully used properly and interpreted appropriately have enormous utility.

6/2/11 Facts 1. Critics of state mandated testing argue that these test narrow the curriculum and force teaching to the test. 2. Testing strong appeal is largely attributable to the lack of alternative policy strategies that fit the unique circumstance s of public schools. Standardized testing is one of the few. 3. The first assessment is seen as a critical component in the educational process.
