Perception The process of becoming aware of objects and events from the senses. Something effects your senses You interpret and explain the sensation to yourself

What affects our perceptions? Physical Differences (hearing, sight, speech, etc.) Past Experiences / Background Current Situation

Perception Everyone’s perception is individual, including whether or not they adhere to the following:

Stereotyping - labeling people as part of a group and treating them as if they possessed only the characteristics of that group Sexism- behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on gender

Ageism - prejudice or discrimination against a particular age-group and especially the elderly Racism - prejudice or discrimination against a particular race

Ethnocentrism- characterized by or based on the attitude that one's own group is superior
