A Sample PowerPoint Your Guide to Successful Note Taking in Class

Vocabulary and Key Terms Key Terms  These will be vocabulary terms for the section  You can define them here, but will required to complete a vocabulary sheet for every chapter  All Vocabulary will be underlined in the notes** **WHEN APPLICABLE Key Figures  These will be the important people in each section  You can identify them here but they will also be a part of your vocabulary sheet for every chapter  All key figures will be underlined in the notes**

Note Heading  Note Headings have No specific meaning, and are used as a way to keep track of where we are  Some note headings may contain jokes, a main idea, or a special challenge  For those taking notes in a notebook, they are not required

Discussion Question These will be higher level discussion questions based on the material from the night before or within the lesson!!

Sidebars  Notes will be available online the before the lessons  The BEST way to succeed in class will be to print out all chapter notes with the Three Slides per page option (Four can work as well)  This will allow for notes and fast facts to be jotted down during the lesson  Those fast facts may aide in your test studying OR lead to bonus points in class

Other Tips  Since all notes will be made available online, you are responsible for all make-up notes  Homework will also be available online, as well as in a handout I give in class  Homework Hotline will be updated weekly

Value of Notes  Success on tests and some quizzes  There will be a homework folder, but notes WILL be included and graded for completion  Note taking is a skill used in all High School and College Level Classes

Note taking Tips  You do not need to copy word for word  Use sidebars for additional explanation  Use notes as a reading guide if you print them prior to class  If you are taking notes in a notebook, that is fine  Notes will still be online  There will be roughly 2-3 minutes per slide so keep up  See me after class or during office hours for additional help

Conclusion  PowerPoints help minimize the amount of notes in class, but there will be times when Overheads may be used  PowerPoints should be printed at home, but if this is not possible the library is a nice second option, the Public Library is a GREAT third option  You are NEVER to print all slides one slide per page of paper  The above is a waste of time, paper and ink!! Use the Three (or four) slide sidebar method

The End These subtitles will also be used at some point in class so make sure to pay attention!!
