MATTER PBL

YOUR TASK: I have a huge mess in my lab storage area and I have no idea what some of these substances are!!! You will need to get 5 unknown substances from the lab. Note- You may get no more than 2 liquid substances. Your mission is to identify these substances as pure substances or mixtures using their physical and chemical properties.

PHYSICAL PROPERTY GUIDELINES You will need to design an experiment that proves a physical property for each unknown. Note- you may not use density more than 3 times. You will also need to identify 3 physical properties for each unknown. You will need to identify each physical property as being wither extensive or intensive (if you don’t know what this means, look it up).

CHEMICAL PROPERTY GUIDELINES You will need to research and propose an experiment to prove a chemical property for your unknowns. Since this can be a tad bit dangerous, you will only need to tell us how you would do the experiment but you will not actually do the experiment. If you can find a good video, you may embed this in your presentation Pick good ones, we may get to demo them as a class!

MY PRESENTATION PET PEEVES Fonts I can not read Busy slides with too many pictures Pictures that cover words Slides and information that have nothing to do with the project... keep the information on task otherwise you are wasting your time and mine ! Obvious copy/pasting of information Standing in front of the class and reading a PowerPoint word for word... YOU WILL BORE ME AND YOUR CLASSMATES!!!
