Coastal Plains In the Gulf Coastal Plains, the weather in the summer is very hot and humid. The winters are mild. The Gulf Coastal Plains have many landforms such as the Gulf of Mexico, the Brazos River, the Colorado River, and the Rio Grande. The coast also has the Balcones Escarpment in it. A escarpment is a steep cliff. Another vocabulary term for the Gulf Coast is estuaries. Estuaries are where salty water and fresh water meet. There are also barrier islands in the Gulf Coast. A barrier island is an island that protects a coast from the damaging effects of tides. Last, there are faults. A fault is a crack in the crust of the Earth.  http://mikenziem.weebly.com/gulf-coastal-plains.html
