Trench Warfare Miles of trenches snaked through Western Europe from Each side had their own trenches filled with soldiers, trench life was horrible. Water in the trenches would cause trench foot(like athletes foot but worse).

Unrestricted Submarine Warfare Unrestricted submarine warfare is a type of naval warfare in which submarines sink merchant ships without warning The use of unrestricted submarine warfare was announced by Germany on January 9th, This provoked an American response and was one of the major reasons America joined the war.

Major Eastern and Western Front Battles Battle of Verdun, 1916 – Lasted ten Months – Germans began attacking February 21, – They charged through the French line Battles of Marne, – Began September 4, 1918 – Lasted 4 years – Cost thousands of lives Battles of Ypres, – 5 battles – First use of poisonous gas by the Germans – One of the most memorable ways of death in this war was drowning in liquid mud – Lasted 3 years Battle of the Somme, 1916 – Started July 1,1916 – British tried to destroy the Germans machine gun posts – Germans dragged themselves out of their trenches to claim their posts and destroy the oncoming British The Battle of Stalluponen,1914 – Russian forces marched into East Prussia on 17 August 1914
