A demonstrator for IST 2001 G. Romier UREC Lyon

What is IST2001? the IST projects Exhibition is dedicated to displaying the results of projects within the European Commission’s Research and Development programmes. The Exhibition offers substantial commercial and PR possibilities, with a peak attendance of over 3500 people last year, plus some 100 journalists from the trade and general press (data from EU) The DataGrid project has been selected to participate to the exhibit When? From 3 to 5 December in Dusseldorf

The DataGrid Exhibit Applications: – Demo A.I: DataGrid and the secrets of the matter (WP8) – Demo A.II: DataGrid for human health (WP10) – Demo A.III: DataGrid for the quality of life in our planet (WP9) – Show A.I: DataGrid for the quality of life in our planet (Video ESA) Middleware: – Demo B.I: The Grid at work, new business models for service provider (WP2, Grid simulator) General info on the project – Show C.I: The DataGrid portal – Brochure and posters

Architecture Introduction (G.Romier) Client interface Server (C.Blanchet) DataGRID Testbed 1 (WP6) Simulator (Y.Legré) Medical Imaging Simulation (J. Montagnat) WP7 Network Monitoring

Introduction Goal : send messages to the visitors – Genomics on an unprecedented scale – Medical imaging on the grid : a big step towards telemedecine – Very High Speed Networks : monitoring and topology Implementation : flash 5.0 – Professional job – Animation (

(see C. Blanchet’s talk) Gridified copy of ( – Same user interface – Addition of Globus scripts to run jobs on testbed1 Globus scripts invoke grid visualization – runs on dedicated resources Use of true or fake sequences ? – True results already computed for quick demo – Copy of server and execution on local machine for bio-aware visitor ?

Simulator Goal : simulate the submission of jobs on the grid – Independent of network connection in Düsseldorf First implementation by JC Jouannel Improvements – List of sites – Flash ? (after IST2001)

Medical imaging animation Goal : A 3D medical image example, to display what kind of medical applications will be improved by the Grid First implementation by J. Montagnat

DataGrid Testbed1 Network Map

G É ANT Broad objective : high bandwidth network – which interconnects the national research and education networks (NREN) in Europe – which offers guaranteed performance and virtual private network capability to groups of end users. deployed for the end of November

GEANT logical Topology

Cooperation between DataGRID and GEANT Technical areas of collaboration: – input to the specification of the G É ANT managed bandwidth service – traffic and performance monitoring, – development of accounting procedures, – specification of necessary security services (Ipsec...) – testing of new services (differentiated services, IP multicast...).

Testbed Monitoring Results from WP7 Metrics – Throughput: the rate at which an application's traffic must be carried by the network – Latency : the delay that an application can tolerate in delivering a packet of data – Jitter : the variation in latency – Loss : the percentage of lost data Tools – PingEr – IPERF – RTPL – NWS…

Summary Resources – CREATIS : J. Montagnat – IBCP : C. Blanchet – LPC : Y. Legré, JC Jouannel – RESAM : P. Primet – UREC Lyon : G. Romier Actions – 18/9 : first meeting with web designer (Lepton) – 30/9 : introduction scenario – 20/10 : grid simulator ready – November : WP7 monitoring results
