Maps & Globes Introduction

What is a map A map is a flat representation of the earth’s land and water features. They give us directions and show us where places and things are located.

What is a globe? A globe is a round, 3-D representation of the earth’s land and water features. Globes also show us where places and things are located on the surface of the earth.

Which would you use? If you were wanting to go from your house to school, would you use a globe or a map for directions?

What is a continent? A continent is a large land mass on the surface of the earth. How many continents are there on earth?

What is an ocean? An ocean is a large body of water found on the surface of the earth. How many oceans are there on earth?
