Major Characters  Romeo – Main character; son of Montague  Juliet – Main character; daughter of Capulet  Capulet- Juliet’s father  Nurse- Juliet’s “mother”; raised her  Mercutio- Romeo’s best friend; relative of the prince  Prince- Ruled Verona; made laws  Benvolio- nephew of Montague; friend to Romeo  Tybalt- nephew of Lady Capulet

Major Characters (con’t)  Lady Capulet- wife of Capulet; Juliet’s mother  Lady Montague- wife of Montague; Romeo ‘s mother  Paris- Juliet’s future husband (according to Capulet)  Montague-Romeo’s father

Plot of Act 1  Capulet’s and Montague's get into a fight. The Prince says the violence between the two families has gone on for too long, and proclaims a death sentence upon anyone who disturbs the civil peace again. Paris asks to marry Juliet, but Capulet say not yet. Romeo and Benvolio still talk about Rosaline. Romeo and the other Montague's are invited to the ball. Lady Capulet wants to talk to Juliet and before she can the nurse starts telling a story about to her daughter. Lady Capulet asks Juliet what she thinks about getting married. Juliet replies that she has not given it any thought.

Plot of Act 1 (con’t)  Romeo and Juliet meet at the ball/party and fall in love with each other. Tybalt wants to fight Romeo but Capulet stops him. Romeo and Juliet discover what families they come from. Romeo doesn’t love Rosaline anymore. Juliet cant believe she has fallen in love with her only enemy’s son.

Scenes 1 and 2: Settings  The first scene starts in Verona on the street where we first are introduced to some of the characters. Verona is the place where the whole play is set in.  The next scene, scene 2, is also set in the street where we meet the Prince, Paris and Capulet.

Scenes 3 and 4: Settings  Scene 3 is the scene where Juliet the nurse and Juliet’s mother is introduced. The scene is in Juliet’s room in the Capulet house.  Scene 4 is on the street with Romeo, Mercutio, and Benvolio.

Scene 5: Setting  Scene 5 starts in the hall of the Capulet’s house then goes to the ballroom of the Capulet’s house where the party that Romeo and Juliet first meet.
