Brussels, 13 & 14 Oct 2009 Episode 3 - CAATS II Final Dissemination Event 3 Keynote speeches Episode 3 and CAATS II are the two most important projects in the area of ATM concept validation and… … it is good to see cooperation, flexibility and coherency from two EC funded projects with different perspectives; Both projects are providing the material expected and Single Sky will aim to make best use of the results… … but now it is time to move on from Methodology Development to Methodology Application… … and the people involved in both projects are indispensable for their knowledge and experience.

Brussels, 13 & 14 Oct 2009 Episode 3 - CAATS II Final Dissemination Event 4 In summary – CAATS II What was done?  Elaboration of the case based approach and guidance; - Safety, Human Factors, Environment and Business;  Case specific transition criteria / maturity assessment. How was it done?  Involvement of experts of different ATM areas;  Flexibility to coop successfully with new impulses (SJU); What was recommended?  Identify and listen to your stakeholders;  Understand maturity;  Initiate the Case Based Approach at the very beginning of the validation process

Brussels, 13 & 14 Oct 2009 Episode 3 - CAATS II Final Dissemination Event 5 In summary – Episode 3 What was done?  Provided detail on key concept elements in SESAR;  Assessed initial operability and performance;  Assessed initial technical impact; How was it done?  by looking in a short time at many validation related issues;  by applying successfully innovative validation techniques; - Gaming, Prototyping, Use of expert groups, Macro-modelling.  by learning many useful lessons. EP3 paved the way for SESAR validation  Results are already being applied in SESAR  Not yet finished – keep track on the results!
