Sculpture 1 & 2 Course Syllabus

Objective: Use the elements and principles of art to create a variety of three dimensional art works. Use a creative thought process to solve design problems Experiment with a variety of materials and processes Explore and be influenced by other artists and experiences Be able to discuss and communicate with art in a more sophisticated way

Requirements: Pass Art 1 in a previous year Be on time and attend regularly (20 or more unexcused absences can result in failure) Come prepared to class with any homework, pencil, and folder Pay class fee!

General Course Project Outline (Can be changed!): September: Paper Sculpture October: Paper/ Wire November: Human figure/Personal Avatar December/January: TBA February: Clay Vessels (pinch, coils, slab coils), Handles, Textures March: Clay April/May/June: mixed media (TBA)

Please know… Vocabulary and articles, and interesting artists will be included with each project. You will be writing and discussing ideas in between and during art projects. Artists are not illiterate or non-verbal. As you will find, art doesn’t happen in a vacuum! Learning how to communicate with others allows you to understand things in new and exciting way!

Grading: Classroom Work=40%: –Writing, class activities, exercises, worksheets Assessments= 40% – Large Projects, Quizzes Homework & Participation=10% –Art Cards, Bell Ringers, Daily points (Sticker system) Midterm/Final=10%

Sticker System 3 (sticker) daily points =On time, participating, cooperating 2 (T) daily points=Tardy, participation, cooperating, poor clean up 1 (N) daily point=On time, no participation, school function 0 (X)= Unexcused absence, late, no participation

Making and learning about art can be FUN! I want you to enjoy your time in this class. Please come to me with any suggestions for projects that you may want to work on individually. Expect to work hard in this course. Attitude and participation are key!
