Brazen Audacity Matt Pieri

Artistic Statement It’s unavoidable, loud in every fiber of its expression, impossible to miss. It conveys the artistic value of the obvious. The people we notice each day, the places we see all the time, the things that want to be noticed. I want to capture the uncommon feeling of “An elephant in the room”. The type of thing someone might make or do to be noticed, a cry for attention or a sense of pride. Exploring the reason people try to make things nicer, better, and why people put themselves out there. Why we want others to notice, respect, and accept us. Where is our attention going and why is it there? What length will a person go to make sure their existence is confirmed? What is the power of Audacity, Brazen Audacity?

Biography Growing up I had experience with artists my entire life. Receiving paintings as gifts from my older sisters, watching my father raise the magnificent buildings he designed, and laughing at the funny comics my brother drew. Art seemed to be a talent and a pastime for my whole family. I have tried many different forms of art, but besides writing photography is my favorite. With a camera I can show someone my observations; they can see what I see. In this new body of work I want to express a theme that is important to me; the idea of wanting attention and its relation to human and artistic expression. I hope to use all genres of photography to show the many themes of attention and change the way we see things.
