What is Engagement? Engagement = Relationship + Opportunity+ Action “It’s All Engagement…every membership inquiry, complaint, voic , or other message. Every website visit, page click, open and click- through…is engagement. Every online search that turns up AWWA or one of its products or services or initiatives…is engagement. Every forum where the issues that concern our members and industry are discussed is engagement.”
Why Engage Members? 84% of engaged workers believe they can positively impact the quality of their organization’s products. The number drops to 31% among disengaged workers. Engaging Members Gets Them Stuck on AWWA! Engaged members know the great value of being part of AWWA. The water profession has greater impact with more actively involved people.
Why Engage Members? Wouldn’t you rather offer an engagement opportunity to a current or prospective member instead of trying to convince them to stay or become a member? Wouldn’t that be more convincing to the current or prospective member? Wouldn’t that be easier to gain action by “recruiters” than trying to get them to sell membership alone?

Welcome New Members Send Welcome First month phone contact –Find out why they joined AWWA –Listen for interests –Introduce them to website & profile –Inform them of upcoming events –Suggest ways for the new member to get involved and volunteer (menu of opportunities)
During First Year of Membership Recognize members on the website Host the New Member and First Time Attendee Breakfast Identify new members at Conferences & Training
During First Year of Membership Measure 1 st -year member participation Prepare reports to the Board on 1 st -year retention and participation.
Promote Member Value to Keep Members Engaged Host the Membership Booth at Conferences. Develop Member Appreciation activity for Member Appreciation Week Recognize Engaged Members Prepare Thank You cards
