What are the major elements of a map?

 A legend  A scale  Cities (state capitals, major cities, smaller cities)  Large bodies of water and natural landmarks. (mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans)  Major highways.

Legend  A table or list of the symbols appearing on a map or chart that explains what each item on the map represents.

Scale  A line on a map that represent a set amount of miles.  This line determines the proportion of the size of objects as they are relative to each other.

Day 1: Creating your map  Make an outline of Georgia.  Draw in the three different regions.  Place a symbol to represent the capital and two major cities in each region.  Draw in three bodies of water (lake, ocean or river)  Draw in two other major landmarks (mountains, stadiums, valleys, etc.)  Make a Compass Rose  Make a legend at the bottom that tells what each symbol means.
