Michelle Martin Award categories, funding, success rates, application and judging process

General Rules For All The awards can; –fund the implementation of new innovations in the NHS, even if taken from a different industry/country and used in the NHS –the adoption of innovations implemented in a few NHS organisations e.g. less than one third of NHS organisations in the North West. The awards cannot –fund the implementation of widely available and widely adopted products/technologies or approaches that are accepted as normal practice –Fund product development or clinical trials.

Enabling Change Award Not available for R4! Was £50-250K Big projects across a range of teams and organisational boundaries Award is for scalable, innovative, complex systems change, type projects All details required are requested on application form.

Bursary Award Up to £25K Implementation and/or evaluation of an innovative service. Primarily for back fill of staff to enable adoption of innovation within a team or division but exclusive of ongoing operational costs following implementation

Sharing Award Up to £5K To encourage greater understanding of the innovation, disseminate the innovation Could be a workshops, a study day, staff time to educate others, produce education and training materials. Could be applied for the year after your bursary project has been completed but not Enabling Change

Funding 352 applications submitted during the financial year of 2009/10. –45 were Sharing,101 were Bursary,206 to the Enabling Change –Totalling £29,379, Awards have been funded totalling £1,306, Awards are paid via PCT allocation on to the main applicant’s organisation
