Fossil Lab

Hypothesis Question: –What do these different ‘rocks’ that are millions of years old tell us about the history of life on Earth? Answer: CHANGES –If these fossils are from a time before humans, then we can see the CHANGES of life’s past.

Station 1: SHARK TEETH A: Mako B: extinct Mako C:Dusky

Station 2 ~ Crinoids! Animals that were at the bottom of the sea. Also known as ‘sea lilies’ Found ALL over Indiana!

Petrified Wood Station # 3

Trilobite Station # 4

Dinosaur Bone! Station # 5 sedimentary but still sedimentary rock!

What do trace fossils tell us? What the ENVIRONMENT was like! Leave no TRACE.

Trace Fossil ~ Worm Burrow Station # 6

Trace Fossil ~ Ripple Marks Station # 7

Trace Fossil ~ Mud Cracks Station # 8

Horn Coral Station # 9

Bivalve/SeaShell Station # 10

Station 10. FISH FOSSIL Look for fossils in INDIANA. They are from a marine environment 260 to 300 million years old.

Where MOST lab fossils are from.

Bonus~Graptolite
