The Shakespearean Duncan  Duncan was a kind ruler  Friend to everyone  Ruled with law and order  Killed in his sleep by Macbeth  His guards were blamed for his death  Killed in Macbeths castle  Was killed shortly after his announcement of his successor

Historical Macbeth  Was a profound king  Macbeth’s rule was efficient and helped promote Christianity  Brought law and order  Friends with the pope  Killed by Malcolm the 3 rd  Fought Duncan on the battlefield  Nicknamed the “Red king”

Historical Duncan  Ruled with Tyranny  Horrible person  Died on the battlefield of Elgin, Morayshire  A weak king  Was an adventurer  Wanted to establish a government

Comparison of Macbeth  In Shakespeare's play Macbeth killed Duncan in his sleep, historically fought to the death  Shakespeare he was a tyrant in the 12 years vs. historically he was a magnificent ruler  Shakespeare he was a coward who pinned the murder on the guards but historically he did it in battle  All history of his goodness wiped out by Malcolm the 3 rd

Comparison of Duncan  Shakespeare he was a great ruler, historically was a awful ruler and deserved to die  Historically he had been killed on the fields of Elgin, Morayshire by the hands of Macbeth, Shakespeare he was killed in his sleep  In Shakespeare he was a generous man who’s generosity was endless, historically he was a tyrant and an a-hole
