African Grassland Veldt By: Kevin Niebes

Location/Climate The Veldt is located in South Africa Veldt is Dutch for field Mild winters with hot or very hot summers Rain fall is about 10 to 40 inches a year

Fauna There are many animals in the Veldt. Ostrich, gazelles and wild beest. Ostriches are up to 7 feet tall so they can see over the tall grass if a predator is coming Gazelles travel in herds to scare off predators Wild beest travel in herds as well to limit out the attacks of lions and other animals

Flora Many types of different kinds of grasses in the grassland One kind is the Acacia Tree The Acacia Tree can grow in warm weather conditions with little rain Has thorns to protect itself from animals trying to eat it

Value The Grassland is a important resource to graziers in Africa The soil is very rich and fertile Also have a lot of vegetation
