What Cukur Rambut Gimbal Potong Gigi This is a ritual that allows the spirits to go away from a child’s mind. It needs a lot of preparation and work for only one or two child’s because this ritual has many ancient and deep traditions. This ritual can make the devils in our body gone. This ritual is very painful but in order to make the devils go away we need to do it. These both needed a lot of preparations before even during the celebrations, because this is important for a teenager’s life.

Pictures For what If we do this ritual the teeth will be flat. If we do this ritual the hair will be a little bit lose but we will get good fortune.

Where Cukur Rambut Gimbal Potong Gigi This ritual is done near the mountain of Dieng. The teenagers and the other entire people chance places example: they pray at “Batu Tulis” then they go to “Goa Sumur” so they always move. These two rituals are done in general so, all the village in that province/ city will do it. And also this ritual will often move the places. This is done in the island of Bali. It is done in all over Bali including the entire village. Bali is a city that grows economically fast. Foreigners from the entire world go there to take the holiday even some of them stay/ retired there. Even though Bali grows on the economic but it still have a very strong tradition. Bali is also called the island of paradise by guest.

When Cukur Rambut Gimbal Potong Gigi Teenager’s hair can only be cut off when the teenager had already ask for heavy demands so it means that they are starting to become more naughty and must be cut off immediately. Usually the ritual lasted for 30 minutes to cut off the teenager’s hair. This ritual is held when the parents wanted their children to be a good child so they do this tradition. Usually when the daughter/ son is already starting to be a teenager. Teenagers do this ritual because it is in the middle of a child’s growth and usually at the time of teenagers they start to act naughty. This ritual is done in a whole day, the teenager MUST wake up early because there will be a prayer in the early morning. The master can only finish cutting when all the teeth is tight and the parents are satisfied. This ritual only lasted for several minutes to make it flat.

Why Cukur Rambut Gimbal Potong Gigi It is belief that evil spirits were at the hair of a child. So when they cut the hair they throw away the evil spirits and the child would not ask their parents for heavy/ big demands. They cut the hair because the hair is the closest from the brain so if the hair is cut the memory in the brain will also be cut off. Usually the family also believed that the teenager will not be sick easily and will get good fortune. To lose 6 evil spirits in our body (gamble, steal, drink, drunken and drugs), Because nowadays teenager’s like to do this 6 bad things. If this ritual is not done the teenager will remember the 6 evil spirits until they are old. It will kill evil spirits that appeared in the teenager’s mind, and make teenager don’t remember about the bad things.

Who Cukur Rambut Gimbal Potong Gigi Usually this ritual is do with more than 1/ 2 children so the family no need to waste money and time, sometimes 6 children do this ritual in one, and 6 of them can be from a different family. Teenagers do this ritual. Usually from the ages of These both ritual can be done with more than 6 teenager each time. Teenagers do this ritual between the ages of Only a certified master can only cut the teenagers teeth because the master only uses a knife not any modern technologies. This ritual each time can be done more than 10 teenagers

How Cukur Rambut Gimbal: Cukur Rambut Gimbal needed a lot of materials. Some of them they needed a Tumpengan, some basket filled with fruit and vegetable to throw in the sea, scissors to cut the hair off, special clothes for the master and the kids to wear. In Cukur Rambut Gimbal ritual it is a very complicated step to do. First, a day before the ceremony the children and the family go to some places to pray so the ceremony will go well. At night before the ceremony, there will be a pencucian pusaka yang dibawa saat kirab anak-anak rambut gimbal untuk dicukur. Second, the next day, the teenager and the family go to a place where the teenager is bathed in”Sendang Sedayu” or in “Sendang Maerokoco”. Third, the children are brought to a place where their hair will be cut off. Fourth, each teenager that participated will be called one- by one to cut off the hair, meanwhile some people will show the kids, Chicken Head, Tempe Gembos, Kambing Etawa, Marmut, etc, And also during a teenager’s hair is cut off some teenager that had not been cut off will be entertained by some traditional arts. Fifth, before the ritual started the teenager’s will be asked about what do they want, and after all the teenagers had been cut off each of their parents will give him/her demand. Sixth, all of the teenager go home and it is finish.

Pictures For How Third, the master cut off the hair. First they pray. Second, the family eat a Tumpengan.

How Potong Gigi: This ritual also needed a lot of preparations. First, the teenager and their family go to “Bale Adat” and all of the people were expecting the teenager will have a different feeling and attitude. Second, the master and the teenager also the family prays for 3 times, to show that the teenager is not a child any more. Third, the teenager lay in a bed where the teenager will bite a sugar cane so that the jaws will not move or close when the ritual is being held. Fourth, the tooth master started to make the teeth flat. Fifth, the master will keep making the teeth flat until the master thinks it is already flat and also the teenager will be given a mirror to know that it is already flat or not. This ritual needed the teenager to wear the traditional clothes.

Picture For How Second, the teenager biting the sugar cane. So the mouth won’t shut. The teenager checking if the teeth is already flat or not. The master making the teeth flat. First, the teenager wears traditional clothes.

How Simmilaraties These two rituals needed a lot of prayers and many reasons because they are afraid that something will go wrong and they don’t want that. Also these rituals have a complicated steps and each of them has its very won special meaning.

Conclusion Even though this is two different rituals it still has a lot of similarities. Some are they both can make the bad devils go out from a teenager’s mind and that is very similar. Another one is that both of them needed a lot of preparations. There are also some differences also because these two are not as same because each of them has a different tradition. It doesn’t matter that the ritual is different the most important thing is that the ritual goes on well and all of the people is happy.
