Mali Medical financial operation Locally – Lack of financial support No subscribers No advertisment – Business and financial operation Submission fees : $10 per manuscript Special issue with local institution´s sponsoring in 2009 Reduction of number of copy / issue

Mali Medical financial operation Partnership subvention – Equipement : 2006 (aged) – Training (regional workshops) Peer review : 2006 Journal managing : 2009 – Desk managing salary August July 2008 June May 2010

Majors improvements Locally – National and regional training center on scientific publication – Fair energetic and enthusiastic editors – Young internships : 1/2 life ? – More than 100 manuscripts per year 60 % from others french speaking countries – On time publication of issues both online and print copy Publication rate : 43,7% – 49,5%

Majors improvements Locally – Special sponsored issue – Reduction of copy number / issue – Upgrading manuscripts handling times and workflow ( see below) – More and more help from librarians for writers and reviewers Under partnership – Workshop on managing a journal – Indexation on Medline, PubMed

Manuscripts handling times and workflow statement Day 1 – manuscript registration and acknoledge to authors Day 2 to15 – prereview by editors Day 16 to 45 – peer reviewers Day 46 to 60 – peer reviewers recommandations to authors Day 61 to 100 – revised manuscript reception day 120 – decision to authorship ; thank to reviewers ; publication

So our challenge Perspectives – Majoration of submission fees – A yearly special sponsored issue for Printing on time every volume – Under partnership African francophone regional workshop on Epublishing (june 2010) Association of francophone editors (in pipeline since april 2009) New of editorial material (computer, software …) Online submission and peer review

SWOT analysis S – Editorial board as a leader, specially editors / CAMES recognization – Regional medical journal / on time and online publication / Indexed journal (Medline, PubMed) – More and more manuscripts every year – National and regional peer reviewer committee W – Lack of local support (logistic, finance) O – Young authors – Regional training center on scientific publication – Sponsored special issue T – Editorial board is not attactive for Young reseachers

SOS Need to extend partnership project to more journals published in french without forgoten those published in portugesis, arabic within Africa.
