Corn - Facts Did you know corn is America’s #1 field crop? Corn can grow between 4 to 12 feet tall and is a member of the “grass” family. Corn can be eaten right off the cob, or processed into cereals, peanut butter, snack foods, and ethanol.

Corn – Fun Facts The fruit of the corn is the “kernel”. The “ear” is a collection of kernels on the cob. There are always an even number of rows of kernels.

Corn – Fun Facts The ear is wrapped in leaves called the “husk.” The flowers that emerge from the top of the husk are called, “silks.” An ear of corn averages 800 kernels in 16 rows. A pound of corn has 1300 kernels.

Health Benefits of Corn Corn is one of the finest sources of dietary fiber Contains good levels of B-complex vitamins Low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium Corn is a little higher in carbohydrates and calories, but the nutritional value of its other benefits make it a healthy and delicious vegetable
