RSWMP,1996: Key Elements 50 % Waste Reduction by 2000 to 440 kg/capita per year “7 Mile” Regional landfill replaces all dumps Communities responsible for garbage collection, RD for processing recyclables & landfilling Reduction by education, user pay, recycling, composting & salvage To be self sufficient by tipping fees & non taxation revenue

Progress to Date 7 Mile Landfill serves 97% of RDMW population Recycling depots at 7 Mile, Alert Bay, Port Alice, Port McNeill, Sointula, Woss & Port Hardy Garbage collection provided by 4 municipalities & in 4 local service areas non-tax revenues are one half of total

Average Recycling Net Cost = $88.50/tonne; 2008 = $94.00/tonne
