All Hands Meeting 2003 mBIRN Scientific Session Maryann Martone October 8, 2003

Projects  UCLA in collaboration with Caltech and Duke mouse models of MS  EAE and Shiverer Data collected with MRI and histology Manuscript in about 6 months  Caltech Continue ongoing collaboration with UCLA and looking into collaborations with Duke

Projects  Duke DAT KO  Manuscript in review, 2nd in preparation  Continuing collaboration with UCLA and Caltech  Further collaborations with Anders Dales from (morph BIRN)  UCLA Diana Price to present a-synuclean project at up coming NeuroScience meeting Astocytoma project coming on line Dopamine transporter paper in about a year

Project Specific Issues  Moving live animals between institutions (Shiverer project, Duke, UCLA, UCSD, Caltech) Develop relationship with animal facility directors Document procedure for moving animals If available by pass centralized viavarium to ones own animal holding facility

General Issues  Data Sharing Data collection vs. data analysis  Does a collaborator processing data from a data collection site have “rights” to the data?  Mark Ellisman task force representative sharing task force  Collaborations Outside of BIRN  How do we bring in new collaborators  Al Johnson to bring issue to Steering Committee.  Simplification of Image Viewing of Diverse Image File Formats Metadata should contain information on how to open images. Viewing app should read metadata.  LONI “Debabbler” application for file format conversion coming to LONI pipeline

General Issues (cont.)  Register Data with Mediator  Populate Database Data types, such as behavior, transgenic animal identifiers/descriptors, etc. need to be defined and brought into mediator  Common Ontology and Nomenclature for Mice
