Primary Health Care :

2- What is Primary Health care ? Provides preventive and curative services of the public ,usually for individuals , as mother, children. It is recommended, however, to provide basic health services on family [unite of the community ] rather than individual basis

3 - Objectives of PHC: Health promotion {physical, mental, social} Prevention of health hazards Control of health hazards, through : - Early diagnosis and management of disease - First aid, intensive care ,and emergency service for injuries, accidents and critical cases

4 - Principles of (PHC): 1- Health for All. 2- Humman rights. 3- Access to services and priority to the weak and poor. 4- Community involvement .

6 - Primary Health care services in Palestine 1- Curative & first aid services 2- Specialized services including diabetic clinics, hypertension, cardiovascular, dermatology and ophthalmology services depending on the needs of populations. 3- Preventive and MCH services including prenatal and post natal care, well baby clinics and vaccinations. 4- Epidemiological surveillance and infectious disease management and control.

5-Womens health including family planning 6- Laboratories with facilities to provide hematology, clinical chemistry and microbiology tests. 7- Dental care services 8- Health education and promotion programs 9- An ambulatory surgery section for minor surgical procedures and emergency condition. 10- Child delivery facilities 11- Water and food control and environmental monitoring

Providers of Primary Health care services in Palestine . The Palestinian health care system is a complex mix of different providers operating at both primary and secondary levels. Services provided by 4 main sectors : MOH +military medical services UNRWA The non governmental sector Private sector

1-General services Some Examples: Health Education Is a teaching process that provides basic knowledge of health behavior example : personal cleanliness (personal hygiene ) practice of proper health-related habits in every day activities healthy life style: -physical exercise and activate, open air recreation - non cigarette smoking ,alcohol consumption, drug abuse and drug dependence Nutrition education

b) Monitoring of the environment: regular supervision and inspection, to check fulfillment of sanitary requirement, and manage defect if exist especially water supply, food sanitation and insect and rodent control c) Prevention and control of endemic disease of Registration of birth, death, and infection disease that must be notified (by law ) to the local health officer so the community. control measure for involved or at risk area when necessary.

*at risk community, for prevention of disease . d) Active immunization : *infant & child, according to schema of compensatory immunization if not given by MCH. *at risk community, for prevention of disease . e) Family planning services : Regulation of child birth, and not to leave it to chance . Increase maternal health and save mother risk with many un-spaced pregnancies & favorable outcome of pregnancy . Family welfare and better child care when having suitable family size.

2-Care of vulnerable groups 1- Maternal & Child health services : a) Maternal : mother are responsible for health promotion and culture of children, and family welfare ,and so must be healthy ,and aware of requirement of health They are at risk of morbidity &mortality during pregnancy , labor and puripuruim ,and whish are largely preventable and controllable through maternal care (pre conceptional care ,pregnancy care , inter conceptional care ) . b) Child care :that should begin before birth ,and continues from birth and through to school age

2-Geriatric health services : parents and grandparents used to live comfortably ,with love and respect ,within extended families in traditional societies . but social changes associated with busy crowded urbane life , and young generations like to have their own separate life on getting married. Eventually the aged find themselves live lonely without care and warmth of family life. -Aging process is associated with varied hazards , du to progressive impairment of physiological functioning , and pathological changes and their squeal So the elderly are exposed to morbidity ,injuries and disability that are responsible for physical ,mental ,and social hazards

3) School health services. 4) Occupational health services

Curative services of PHC They are clinical services for diagnosis and management of disease ,and first aid and emergency service like: Outpatient clinics – polyclinics (some cases may need referral) Dispensary (pharmacies ) to provide prescribed drugs First aid and emergency service. Inpatient service : some PHC centers have a number of beds, for hospital treatment of minor and surgical cases

Laboratory services : small laboratory for simple tests

Health professionals especially those in primary health care, have an important role to play in nurturing health promotion and enabling it to happen .
