Who is Compass? Fully Funded Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) We were borne out of the need for access to primary health care services for people receiving substance abuse treatment. Our behavioral health sister agency, The Counseling Center (TCC) had been offering services in the community since 1980 and were finding it very difficult to access primary care services for their clients.

More about Compass Community providers weren’t interested in taking care of “those people” even when they had Medicaid coverage. TCC decided to offer their own medical services and began integrating primary care in Originally funded by the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, now known as Interact for Health

Compass…continued We began with one provider and a supervising physician. It was a very expensive proposition and there was not enough revenue to support the operation. How can this program be sustained?

The Journey to FQHC status Research into our community indicated there were more than just TCC patients needing access to quality primary health care Scioto County ranks among the worst for healthcare indices in Ohio The Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) model exists to serve the needs of an underserved area or population by offering access to care and removing barriers such as the ability to pay. Late 2011, early 2012 began process of applying to become FQHC Look-Alike.

FQHC - continued As a FQHC – LA, you are required to meet numerous clinical, financial, and operational outcomes. If you can’t offer a required service, you must have a relationship in place for someone else to offer that required service. This designation provides access to enhanced reimbursement rates as well as 340 B prescription drug pricing for your patients. Received our Look Alike designation in February When a funding window opened, we decided to apply for full FQHC status, which if awarded, provides grant funds and protection under the Federal Tort Claims Act. Received notice of funding in August
