Report all accidents and dangerous occurrences to your supervisor, whether or not an injury resulted It is a legal requirement that some injuries and dangerous occurrences are reported to the enforcing authorities and recorded by your employer This information can be valuable for the avoidance of similar incidents Part 10 - Accident Reporting and Recording

Near Misses (sometimes called Near Hits or Close Calls) Should also be reported, even if you think it was a foolish action by you that caused it Research has shown a relationship between different types of incident, called the Accident Triangle Part 10 - Accident Reporting and Recording

Accident Triangle Part 10 - Accident Reporting and Recording Serious or disabling injury Minor injuries (first-aid incidents) Damage-only accidents Near Misses

Accident Triangle In other words, for every 600 Near Misses, there will be 30 accidents where damage to property is caused, 10 incidents of first-aid treatment being required and 1 incident of serious injury Part 10 - Accident Reporting and Recording

Accident Triangle By reporting near misses, controls may be put in place that mean the same incident does not happen again, with a potentially worse outcome Part 10 - Accident Reporting and Recording

In the event of an Accident Leave the scene of an accident undisturbed for inspection unless, of course, it is necessary to move an injured person. Get every injury, however slight, attended to by a qualified first-aider, your doctor or, if necessary, at a hospital as soon as possible. Ensure that details of your injury are recorded in the accident book Part 10 - Accident Reporting and Recording

Thank you for Attending Any Questions? Part 10 - Accident Reporting and Recording
